Ratatat | Nostrand

I first heard this song in Filmography 2010, and though it’s a great song in it’s own right, I can’t help but hear Hit-Girl say ‘Let’s see what you can do’ in time with the beat each time I listen.

CSS - Red Alert (Feat. Ratatat)

I love CSS. Despite being imperfect, I loved their debut album. It’s mostly down to the irresistible charm of Lovefoxx, but this didn’t save their second album ‘Donkey’ from being forgettable. Aside from a few tracks - Believe Achieve, Beautiful Song - I felt underwhelmed. After that it seemed that the group had disappeared off the face of the earth until I found out they were releasing their third album a week before it came out.

And it’s a great album, it doesn’t have much focus, but they’ve managed to create something that’ll work for their fans, and both the indie and mainstream-minded listeners out there. It was difficult to pick just one track (Echo of Love, La Liberacion, City Grrrl, Hit Me Like A Rock - the latter I find myself singing ‘It hit me like a tom’ more often than not (Spoon fan at heart)), but I chose this both for how damn catchy it is and how perfect a pairing CSS and Ratatat are.

La Liberación is available on iTunes and Amazon now.

Honourable Mention: Bob Dylan - You’re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go
